Instagram takes inspiration from Snapchat….again!
Social media platforms love a bit of one-upmanship. In their quest to be the best, Facebook, Instagram, and Snapchat are always releasing new features. Last year, Instagram added their ‘Stories’ feature, which allows users to take and uploadphotos and videos as part of a 24 hour ‘live’ feed, just like Snapchat. You can add text or even draw on top of them. They also launched the Boomerang feature within Stories as well as ‘mentions’– more info here.
These new features aren’t just a way to get individuals using the platform. Instagram always has an eye on businesses, and how they can use it to promote their products and services. Indeed, thousands of businesses now use Instagram. It’s an ideal platform in particular for the fashion, home, beauty and lifestyle sectors.
Instagram Stories for business
Instagram Stories allow businesses to build on and enhance their brand. They can use Stories to senda much more comprehensive and interesting message to their followers than one image alone can achieve. Stories are being used to create interest around product launches and events, or ‘behind the scenes’ looks at the design process or what is happening day to day. But that’s not all – Stories are great for competitions and time limited special offers.
In an attempt to create further interest in Stories, Instagram has taken inspiration yet again from Snapchat, with its new Stickers feature.
How a business can use Instagram stickers within their Stories
When you take a photo or video within the Stories section, at the top right of the screen you will see the drawing and text icons that have been there for some time. Now, there is the new Stickers icon. Click on it, and you can scroll through a dizzying array of options. Tap on a sticker to add it to your picture.
You can customise your sticker by moving it around the screen or resizing it. You can then add a drawing or text in the usual way. Sticker options include the usual smiley faces, but you can be as creative as you like. For example, you can use stickers to let followers know what the weather’s like, or what time it is. You can add as many stickers as you want.
All of these options may seem a bit frivolous, but they’re a great way for businesses to add a bit of fun and interest to their Stories. If you’re not sure where to start, take a look at Instagram’s blog post for some tips.
